  • Description

Presses at the Government Printing Office in Washington running off copies of the best-selling Surgeon General's Report on Smoking, which definitely blamed cigarettes for cancer, heart disease and a number of other ills. The presses, which started rolling before the report was released (operated by pressmen with special security clearance) have been barely able to keep up with demand for the volume which sells for $1.25. Most of the initial output has gone to members of Congress, the tobacco industry and doctors. Few orders yet have been received from the general public, but the volume bids fair to become one of the biggest sellers in the printing office's history.
