Background: Mr. Diefenbaker, the Canadian Premier, and his wife flew to Agra, India, on Nov. 21 for a visit to the majestic Taj Mahal, memorial to the wife of Mogul Shahjehan.
The Canadian Prime Minister and his wife wore dark glasses for their sight-seeing tour to guard their eyes from the fierce glare of the white marbled shrine.
Before entering the Taj Mahal, all members of the party donned slippers, a requisite of Indian sanctity.
As they toured the great building, Mr. Diefenbaker and his wife saw stone masons at work repairing parts of the marble structure.
The Canadian Premier is on a tour of Far Eastern Commonwealth countries. He earlier visited Britain, France and West Germany.
