TRANSCRIPT: SCHRADE: SEQ. 1: "I WAS ONE OF THE FIRST TO LEAVE THE PLATFORM, BECAUSE IT WAS GETTING SO CROWDED THERE AND QUITE DANGEROUS, TO TRY AND LOOSEN UP THE GROUP. AND I WALKED DOWN THE STAIRS AND INTO THE BACK WHERE ..... HEADING FOR THE PRESS ROOM. SENATOR KENNEDY WAS GOING TO DO A PRESS CONFERENCE RIGHT AFTER HE MADE HIS STATEMENT TO HIS CAMPAIGN WORKERS. AND HE PASSED AND I GRABBED A HOLD OF JESS ..... AND BEGAN FOLLOWING AND THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE LIKE ELECTRIC CHARGES OR EXPLOSIONS GOING ON AND IN GREAT CONFUSION AND AFTER THAT I DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED. I HIT THE DECK. IT'S A GREAT PERSONAL TRAGEDY BECAUSE BOB KENNEDY WAS A VERY CLOSE FRIEND OF MINE AND NOT ONLY AS A FRIEND BUT EXPECTED HIM TO BE A GREAT PRESIDENT AND I THINK THAT'S WHAT THE COUNTRY NEEDED. AND I'AM DEEPLY INVOLVED IN THE WORK OF THE U.A.W., AND THE PEACE MOVEMENT, AND THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT, POOR PEOPLE'S MOVEMENT, AND THOUGHT THAT WE HAD A CHANCE IN ONE PERSON TO SOLVE OUR GREAT PROBLEMS. I THINK OUR COUNTRY IS, HAS LITTLE CHANCE OF SURVIVING IN THESE KIND OF SITUATIONS."
