Background: Rebels have taken possession of Batista's luxurious home in Havana, and among "treasures" filmed were a statue of Abraham Lincoln... famous for the emancipation of slaves; a biography of Napoleon Bonaparte. Proud of his own rise from Corporal in the Cuban army to Colonel and finally President, Batista had heroic-sized paintings of himself in various uniforms hung on the office walls. A set of dinner plates bear President Eisenhower's picture.

Upstairs were the spacious expensively furnished living quarters where Batista, his wife, eight children and his Father lived in sumptuous opulence. Everything just as he left it when fleeing the country are Batista's thirty five hand tailored white dinner jackets. No time to pack the vintage wines, Champagne and expensive liquors.

Another luxurious Batista home-from-home is on a quiet street in Daytona Beach, Florida, USA. At least two of Batista's children -- a son, Fulgencio Jnr. and a five year old daughter -- have taken up residence here with an assortment of Aunts, Nephews and Nieces. Batista bought this home -- all seventeen rooms and seven baths -- two years ago as an insurance against sudden revolutions. It also has a swimming pool, a Solarium and a boathouse. Rumour has it that when the house becomes less of an attraction for 'shutter happy rubbernecks' Batista will move in.

Batista obviously did not have much time to pack before he fled to the Dominican Republic. Castro's people say he only took his money with him... all several hundred million dollars of it.
