  • Description

Bluenose Two, continuing her shakedown trials off the coast of Nova Scotia, today was under sail for the second day running. Here's film of the vessel as she made her first test run under sail...

The second Bluenose put to sea from her berth in Lunenburg. The skipper, Captain Ellsworth Coggins, ordered her sails hoisted for her first tryout under a full sea breeze.Bluenose Two is a faithful reproduction of the racing workshop that whisked crews to the fishing grounds of the Brand Banks in the twenties.

At the helm: the skipper of the original Bluenose, Captain Augus Walkers, now eighty, who said he was pleased with the vessel's response. With her sails unfurled, Bluenose Two began looking more like the vessel on the back of the Canadian dime. She was now carrying thousands of square feet of sail as she headed out to sea, healed before the breeze and hauled away.
