    WITHOUT EVER SERIOUSLY CHALLENGING THE RACE LEADER, HE NURSED A PARTIALLY-SICK CAR FROM START TO FINISH, AND WON THE RACE IN THE VERY LAST OF THE 32 LAPS.

    DAN GURNEY, (NO 15), WELL IN THE LEAD IN A BRABHAM-CLIMAX, AND GRAHAM HILL, (No 21), HOLDING SECOND PLACE IN THE B.R.M., BOTH RAN OUT OF PETROL WITHIN FIVE MILES OF THE FINISH.

    BRUCE McLAREN, (No 20), IN A COOPER, ALSO RAN OUT OF PETROL AND WAS PASSED BY CLARK, 100 YARDS FROM THE FINISH.

    IT WAS ONE OF THE FASTEST ROAD RACES IN THE HISTORY OF THE SPORT. CLARK IN HIS LOTUS COVERED THE 280 MILES OF THE UNDULATING WINDING ARDENNES CIRCUIT IN 2 HOURS 6 MINS. 40.5 SEC., A SPEED OF ABOUT 132 M.P.H.

    BY HALF DISTANCE SEVEN OF THE 18 STARTERS HAD RETIRED, ALL WITH ENGINE TROUBLE. JOHN SURTEES, (No 10), FERRARI, RETIRED WITH FUEL INJECTION FAILURE IN THE FOURTH LAP.

    McLAREN WAS SECOND, JACK BRABHAM, (No 14), IN A BRABHAM, WAS THIRD, AND RICHIE GINTHER, (No 2), B.R.M., FOURTH. HILL AND GURNEY WERE BOTH CLASSED AS FINISHERS AND PLACED FIFTH AND SIXTH RESPECTIVELY. GURNEY HAD THE FASTEST LAP AT 3 MINS.49.2 SEC. A SPEED OF 137.25 M.P.H.
