  • Description

All 18 people on board an Indian Airlines Fokker-Friendship aircraft were killed when it crashed near Delhi on Friday night (11 August).

The aircraft, on a domestic flight from Bombay to New Delhi, crashed minutes before it was due to land. On board were 14 passengers and a crew of four. Airlines officials have said that strong surface winds and poor visibility may have contributed to the crash. Heavy rain and mud prevented rescue workers from reaching the crash site until early Saturday morning.

It was the second crash near Delhi in the last two months. On 14 June, a Japanese Airlines DC-8 crashed, killing 89 people.
