    THE NGWENYAMA OF SWAZILAND, SOBHUZA 11, TODAY (FRIDAY) OFFICIALLY OPENED THE COUNTRY'S FIRST RAILWAY LINE. THE 137-MILE LINKS THE SWAZILAND IRON ORE DEVELOPMENT COMPANY'S OPEN-CAST MINE AT NGWENYA WITH GOBA, ON THE EASTERN BOUNDARY WITH MOZAMBIQUE. WORK ON THE LINE BEGAN IN 1962 AND WAS COMPLETED LAST SEPTEMBER AT A COST OF ABOUT GBP8,000,000.

    THE OPENING CEREMONY TOOK PLACE AT THE KA DAKE STATION, NEAR MBABANE. SOBHUZA 11 WAS ASSISTED IN THE CEREMONY BY THE QUEEN'S COMMISSIONER IN SWAZILAND, MR. FRANCIS LLOYD, AND THE CHAIRMAN OF THE ANGLO AMERICAN CORPORATION, MR. HARRY OPPENHEIMER.

    LATER, THE NGWENYAMA WAS PRESENTED WITH A SILVER TRAY BE THE CHAIRMAN OF THE SWAZILAND RAILWAYS, MR. HAWKINS. A POSTAGE STAMP MARKING THE OCCASION WAS ISSUED IN SWAZILAND THE SAME DAY.
