    THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF SOUTHERN YEMEN WAS YESTERDAY (TUESDAY) ADMITTED TO THE ARAB LEAGUE AT A MEETING AT THE HEADQUARTERS IN CAIRO. THE NEW DELEGATE FOR SOUTHERN YEMEN IS ABDULLAH ISMAIL.

    AS THE SOUTHERN YEMEN WAS BEING FORMALLY ADMITTED TO THE ARAB LEAGUE, THE SECURITY COUNCIL OF THE UNITED NATIONS DECIDED TO ENDORSE THEIR APPLICATION TO JOIN THE WORLD BODY.

    THE NEW STATE WAS FORMERLY THE BRITISH TERRITORY OF ADEN AND SOUTH ARABIA.

    SYNOPSIS: AT THE HEADQUARTERS OF THE ARAB LEAGUE IN CAIRO, YESTERDAY (TUESDAY) A MEETING WAS HELD TO FORMALLY ADMIT A NEW MEMBERS THE NEWLY-FORMED GOVERNMENT OF SOUTHERN YEMEN. THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF SOUTHERN YEMEN WAS FORMERLY THE BRITISH TERRITORY OF ADEN AND SOUTH ARABIA.

    THE DELEGATE FOR SOUTHERN YEMEN, SECOND FROM THE RIGHT, IS MR. ABDULLAH ISMAIL.

    ONE MEMBER WHO DID NOT ATTEND THE PROCEEDINGS WAS SAUDI ARABIA.

    AS THE DELEGATE FOR LEBANON DELIVERED A SPEECH OF WELCOME TO THE REPUBLIC OF SOUTHERN YEMEN, THE SECURITY COUNCIL OF THE UNITED NATIONS WAS CONSIDERING AN APPLICATION BY THE REPUBLIC TO JOIN THE WORLD BODY. THE APPLICATION WAS SUBSEQUENTLY ENDORSED AND SOUTHERN YEMEN WILL BE ADMITTED AS THE 123RD MEMBER OF THE UNITED NATIONS.

    TO COMPLETE THE CEREMONY, THE NEW DELEGATE RAISED THE FLAG OF THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF SOUTHERN YEMEN AND THE NEW STATE OFFICIALLY BECAME A MEMBER OF THE ARAB LEAGUE. MR. ISMAIL THEN ACCEPTED THE CONGRATULATIONS OF HIS FELLOW MEMBERS ON BEHALF OF HIS COUNTRY.
