Background: At St. Nicholas Church in Dar Es Salaam, Tanganyika, Nov 30 Father Trevor Huddleston was consecrated Bishop of the southern Tanganyika diocese of Masasi. The service was conducted by the newly appointed Archbishop Leonard Beecher of East Africa.

In attendance were five East African Bishops and 30 other clergy including the Rev. Leo Rakale from Johannesburg who worked with Father Huddleston while he was in South Africa.

Among the congregation was Julius Nyerere, the Chief Minister, and members of the Government. Tanganyika's Governor Sir Richard Turnbull and his wife were also present.

After the service the new Bishop led the procession outside the church and blessed the waiting crowd. Here he was presented with a Bible as a gift from the African people.
