In Jerusalem, violence erupted again on Sunday (17 December) when a bomb exploded on a bus, travelling through the city's Bayt Vegan suburb. Seventeen people were injured.
SYNOPSIS: The scene of the bombing later became the venue of a demonstration against terrorism. A similar bus bomb five months ago killed six people. This time, the entire rear section of the vehicle was blown away. The bus had been en rout between the old city and the western parts of Jerusalem.
The demonstration was also against a rocket attack on a group of Israeli settlements on the occupied West Bank of the River Jordan on Saturday (16 December). There were no casualties as a result of the attack and little property damage was reported.
The occupants of the bombed bus sustained only slight injuries. The blast coincided with the Camp David deadline for the signing of an Israeli-Egyptian peace treaty.
