Background: The Girl Guide movement in Zambia celebrated its fiftieth Anniversary this year with a Golden Jubilee Camp in the country's capital Lusaka. The Zambian Guides were jointed at the ten-day camp by Guides from other countries, including the United States of America, Kenya, the Philippines, Tanzania, Britain, Uganda, Denmark, Botswana, and Malawi.

A strong element in the celebrations and entertainments was traditional African songs and dances, performed by the home contingent.

On Sunday (25th August) a service of worship was held for the campers, at which the Secretary-General of the Zambian United National Independence Party, Mr. Grey Zulu, gave the address. In the afternoon the camp was opened to visitors, with a presentation of awards and a pageant.

Others attractions the girls enjoyed during the first six days of the camp included a film show given by the Wild Life Conservation Society of Zambia, and "International Night" with entertainment provided by national and provincial groups, and visits to the National Assembly, Mulungushi Hall and the University of Zambia.
