    SOME FOUR HUNDRED PRO-COMMUNIST STUDENTS MARCHED YESTERDAY (SATURDAY) TO THE SOVIET CONSULATE IN CALCUTTA TO PROTEST AGAINST "SOVIET ATTACKS ON CHINA" DURING THE RECENT BORDER CLASHES BETWEEN THE TWO COUNTRIES. THEY CARRIED PORTRAITS OF MAO TSE-TUNG, MARX AND LENIN AND LATER BURNED EFFIGIES OF MRS INDIRA GANDHI, SOVIET PRIME MINISTER KOSYGIN, AND PRESIDENT RICHARD NIXON.

    ANOTHER BUTT OF THE EXTREMIST DEMONSTRATORS WAS WEST BENGAL'S HOME MINISTER JYOTI BASU - WHOM THEY CONDEMNED FOR THE POLICE ACTION AGAINST THE NAXALITES. MRS GANDHI WAS ATTACKED FOR BOTH HER POLICIES TOWARDS THE UNITED STATES AND THE U.S.S.R.

    POLICE STATIONED AROUND THE SOVIET CONSULATE WERE WELL PREPARED AND THEY KEPT THE DEMONSTRATORS ABOUT THREE HUNDRED YARDS AWAY - CHANTING AND BURNING THE EFFIGIES. THE DEMONSTRATION ORGANISED BY THE WEST BENGAL STATE REVOLUTIONARY YOUTH STUDENT CONFERENCE PREPARATION COMMITTEE, LASTED APPROXIMATELY ONE HOUR.
