Background: Apollo 15 moonship Falcon lifted off the moon on Monday (2 August), and docked with the command ship Endeavour in moon orbit. Astronauts David Scott and James Irwin completed over three days of exploration on the lunar surface -- days which saw more distance covered, more rocks collected and more detailed observations radioed to earth, than the three previous moon-landing expeditions put together.

Seventeen minutes after lift-off from the moon, astronaut Scott said he could see the mothership, Endeavour, carrying astronaut Alfred Worden. Mission control reported that Scott's heartbeat rate at lift-off was a very calm 74 beats per minute -- much lower than any of the three Apollo 15 crew at lift-off from Cape Kennedy a week ago.

An added feature on this lunar lift-off was coverage by the same television camera that had followed the astronauts through the three moon drives in the Lunar Rover.
