TRANSCRIPT: SEQ. 7: INTERVIEW
Interviewer. Why did you decide to become a special constable?
Blair. Well, I'd been in the English constabulary for five year, then I saw an advert in the papers and I decided to apply for the special constabulary.
Interviewer. You obviously enjoyed police work in Jamaica
Blair. Oh yes I did enjoy it quite a lot
Interviewer. Now you haven't done this because of colour have you, wanting to be the first coloured special policeman?
Blair. No, not at all, as a matter of fact I didn't know there were no coloured special policemen in Britain before
Interviewer. How do you think you'll get on handling people here?
Blair. Well, I think I'll get on pretty O.K.
Interviewer. If you find yourself in a tight spot with a person who becomes abusive about your colour, what will you do then?
Blair. Well, if and when I do land in a tight spot, the right steps will be taken and things will be brought under control as it should be.
Interviewer. Are you a quick tempered person, would you lose your temper if someone started abusing you about your colour
Blair. No, not at all.
Interviewer. Would you like to be a full-time policeman here?
Blair. No, I don't think so.
Interviewer. What do you think of the British police?
Blair. Well they are pretty efficient and I think they are doing well
