    PRINCE NORODOM SIHANOUK, THE CAMBODIAN HEAD OF STATE, YESTERDAY (MONDAY) LED THE NATION AT CEREMONIES IN PNOMPENH MARKING THE 11TH ANNIVERSARY OF CAMBODIA'S INDEPENDENCE.

    AFTER LAYING A WREATH AT THE MONUMENT OF INDEPENDENCE,THE PRINCE TOOK THE SALUTE AT A MARCH-PAST OF THE ARMED FORCES AND CIVILIAN GROUPS.

    AMONG THE TEN COUNTRIES THAT SENT DELEGATIONS SPECIALLY TO THE CEREMONIES WERE THE SOVIET UNION AND THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA.FRANCE WAS ALSO REPRESENTED -- RECALLING THAT CAMBODIA WAS THE FIRST OF THE FRENCH INDOCHINA COLONIES TO OBTAIN INDEPENDENCE.

    SOVIET-BUILT VEHICLES AND WEAPONS TOOK UP MUCH OF THE PARADE. ANOTHER HIGHLIGHT WAS THE MARCH-PAST OF CAMBODIA'S ARMED GIRL SOLDIERS.

    IN AN ANNIVERSARY SPEECH, PRINCE SIHANOUK SAID THE UNITED STATES HAD ONLY TWO ALTERNATIVES IN THE WAR IN SOUTH VIETNAM -- "EITHER RENOUNCE ITS MAD ENTERPRISE OR USE STRONGER MEANS."
    THE LATER COURSE, HE SAID WOULD "UNAVOIDABLY ENTAIL INTERVENTION BY THE GREAT POWERS,": IN WHICH CASE HE SAID "OUR CHINESE FRIENDS AND BROTHERS COULD NOT STAND BY WITH THEIR ARMS FOLDED."
