• Short Summary

THE STATE OF LOUISIANA IN THE SOUTH OF THE U.S. HAS BEEN HIT BY FLOODS?

  • Description

THE STATE OF LOUISIANA IN THE SOUTH OF THE U.S. HAS BEEN HIT BY FLOODS THAT HAVE LEFT SOME AREAS UNDER 9 FEET OF WATER. BUT, DESPITE SEVEN DEATHS CAUSED BY FLOODING IN NEARBY TEXAS, THERE HAVE SO FAR BEEN NO CASUALTIES IN LOUISIANA.

WHEN ONE DYKE BROKE, FLOOD WATER RUSHED ACROSS PASTURES TOWARDS FIELDS WITH 1.500 OIL AND GAS WELLS. THE FLOOD WATER WAS NINE FEET DEEP NEAR OIL CITY, WHERE TWO-THIRDS OF AN INCH OF RAIN FELL IN ONE HOUR. THUNDERSTORMS ADDED TO THE FLOOD WATERS THAT COVER ABOUT 15,000 ACRES OF LOUISIANA, BUT DENSELY POPULATED AREAS HAVE SO FAR BEEN SPARED.

RESIDENTS IN THE FLOODED AREAS HAVE MOVED AS MANY OF THEIR POSSESSIONS AS THEY COULD FROM THEIR HOMES AND FLED TO HIGHER GROUND. VOLUNTEER COWBOYS HAVE BEEN ROUNDING UP HERDS DIRECTLY IN THE LINE OF ADVANCING FLOOD WATERS.
