    AMONG THE THOUSANDS OF MEMORIAL SERVICES HELD FOR THE REVEREND DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING THIS WEEK WAS ONE IN NAIROBI, KENYA, ATTENDED BY GOVERNMENT LEADERS, PARLIAMENTARIANS, AND MEMBERS OF THE AMERICAN COMMUNITY LED BY THE AMBASSADOR, MR. GLEN FERGUSON.

    PRESIDENT KENNYATTA HAD ALREADY EXPRESSED HIS SHOCK AND GRIEF AT THE DEATH OF DR. KING, WHO WAS ASSASSINATED LAST THURSDAY IN MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE, BY A WHITE SNIPER FOR WHOM THE POLICE ARE STILL SEARCHING, AND BURIED AT ATLANTA, GEORGIA, ON TUESDAY. PRESIDENT KENNYATTA SAID OF THE CIVIL RIGHTS LEADER: "DR. KING FOUGHT NON-VIOLENTLY FOR RACIAL EQUALITY AND HIS UNTIMELY DEATH HAS CAUSED A WAVE OF SYMPATHY THROUGHOUT KENYA, AND INDEED THE WHOLE OF AFRICA."
    THE KENYA NATIONAL ASSEMBLY OBSERVED TWO MINUTES SILENCE AND FLAGS WERE FLOWN AT HALF MAST THROUGHOUT KENYA ON THE DAY OF DR. KING'S FUNERAL. ALSO ON TUESDAY, GOVERNMENT MINISTERS JOINED IN THE NON-DENOMINATIONAL. MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR DR. KING IN NAIROBI. FOR THE AMERICAN COMMUNITY IN KENYA, MR. FERGUSON TOLD THE CONGREGATION THAT DR. KING WAS A MAN DEDICATED TO HIS DEAL AND OBJECTIVES RATHER THAN THE WAYS AND MEANS OF ACHIEVING THEM.
