Background: A Hungarian Cardinal, Dr. Laszlo Lekai, has been nominated as 'Man of conscience' for 1979. The award was made by the Call of Conscience Foundation -- a body representing several denominations in the United States.
SYNOPSIS: The Call of Conscience award is made annually to individuals for their humanitarian work. On Tuesday (13 November) the Call of Conscience Foundation -- led by Rabbi arthur Schneier of the U.S. -- visited Cardinal Lekai's home town, Esztergom, to make the presentation.
Cardinal Lekai was ordained a Roman Catholic priest in 1934. In 1976, he wa??? made Archbishop of Esztergom and Primate of Hungary. Present at the ceremony were several hungarian bishop and other Hungarian church leaders. Also there was the President of the hungarian State Office for Church Affairs, Imre Miklos, Deputy Foreign Minister, Janos Nagy, and the Secretary of the Hungarian Council of the Patriotic Popular Front, Bela Molnar.
