  • Description

Pen Duick Vl's re-entry into the Whitbread Round-the-World Yacht Race has been delayed yet again.

After leaving Sydney four weeks ago Pen Duick returned just two days later with a broken mast. Having fitted a new mast Skipper Tabarlay hoped to leave for Rio on Friday (1st February). However, perparstions were no completed so the departure was put off until Saturday (2nd February) morning. Then this too was postponed and the yacht is understood to be leaving Sydney either late Saturday night or early Sunday.

A Visnews reporter who visited the yacht and spoke with crew members on Saturday understands that all supplies have been taken aboard but the delay is due to skipper Eric Tabarlay's desire to have the main mast given one final check-over. This is the third main mast Pen Duick has had since leaving Portsmouth last year, and not suprisingly M. Tabarlay is very wary of having to find a fourth.
