    Soviet Communist Party leader Leonid Brezhnev and the President, of the United states Gerald Ford, attended the opening ceremony on Wednesday (30 July) in Helsinki, of the European summit on security.

    The conference, called for by the Soviet Union for 20 years, will acknowledge the status-quo in Europe and the inviolability of frontiers.

    All European nations - except Albania - as well as the United states and Canada are represented at the conference which is also being attended by the French President Valery Giscard D'Estaing and the British Prime Minister, Mr. Harold WiLSON, and the veteran Yugoslavian leader, President Tito.

    The President of Finland, Urho Kekkonen, opened the 35-state summit and told the delegates he hoped their three day stay in Helsinki would be fruitful.
