  • Description

THREE NEW GIANT COOLING TOWERS FORM A STRIKING LANDMARK AT PARADISE PLANT IN WESTERN KENTUCKY, WHERE THE TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY IS CONSTRUCTING THE COUNTRY'S LARGEST COAL-FIRED POWER PLANT.

THESE TOWERS WILL REDUCE THE NEED FOR COOLING WATER FROM THE ADJACENT RIVER, BY COOLING AND RECIRCULATING SOME OF THE WATER ALREADY USED.

THE FLOW FROM ALL THREE TOWERS WILL BE AS MUCH AS 800,000 GALLONS A MINUTE.

THEY ARE PART OF AN EXPANSION PROJECT TO MEET THE INCREASING DEMAND FOR ELECTRIC POWER. WHEN THE NEW GENERATING UNIT NOW BEING ADDED TO PARADISE PLANT BEGINS OPERATION NEXT YEAR, IT WILL ACHIEVE ITS FULL CAPACITY.
