    THE RACE WAS THE 63RD SUCH EVENT. RIDERS FROM BOTH EASTERN AND WESTERN EUROPE TOOK PART.

    FIRST COMBINATION HOME WAS TEAM NO. 2, WOLFGANG SCHULZE (WEST BERLIN) AND HORST OLDENBURG (WEST GERMANY), WITH 368 POINTS.

    PETER POST, OF THE NETHERLANDS, AND PATRICK SERGU (BELGIUM), WERE SECOND, WITH 248 POINTS.

    THE THIRD TEAM, WHO CAME IN ONE LAP BEHIND, WERE WEST BERLINER KLAUS BUGDAHL, AND SIGI RENZ, FROM MUNICH.

    TWO LAPS BEHIND THE WINNER, BUT HIGHER ON POINTS THAN THE THIRD TEAM, WERE DIETER KEMPER (WEST GERMANY) AND CZECHOSLOVAKIAN, JIRI DALER, WHO WERE FOURTH.

    THE RACE WAS ONLY DECIDED IN THE LAST TWELVE MINUTES, WHEN SCHULZE AND OLDENBURG AND POST AND SERGU - BOTH TEAMS WITH SUBSTANTIAL POINTS ADVANTAGES - CLOSED UP TO BUGDAHL AND RENZ, WHO HAD EARLIER MANAGED TO OPEN UP A ONE LAP LEAD.
