Background: Donna Paola Ruffo de Calabria, who marries Prince Albert de Liege, heir to the Belgian throne, in Brussels July 2, was filmed by VISNEWS on her arrival at Brussels Airport June 28. Accompanied by her mother, Princess Louisa Ruffo, and her brother Prince Antonello, the 21-year-old honey-blonde Princess was greeted with a hug from her finance, and kiss from her future father-in-law, ex-King Leopold.
A huge crowd gave a frenzied welcome to Belgium's new Princess. At one point crowds broke loose from behind police cordons, closed in on the car, and flung bouquets of flowers on to the Princess's lap.
Already Brussels is beflagged in preparation for the wedding. Rumours persist that King Baudouin has ordered this to be a 'quiet wedding' -- no uniforms, State processions, and invitations for relatives and close friends only -- because he is on the point of announcing his own betrothal to pretty 24-year-old Princess Marie Therese of Bourbon-Parma, and wishes to reserve all the pageantry for his own wedding.
However strong this rumour, Brussels continues in a state of great excitement...and comparative contentment.
