  • Description

French nationals are starting to leave Chad in central Africa after renewed fighting between Government and rebel forces.

SYNOPSIS: Anxious relatives waited at Paris airport in the early hours of Thursday morning (27 April) for those who were returning. Two hundred returned on Thursday - mainly women and children. They had left N'djamena on Wednesday night, a few hours after the French Government officially confirmed for the first time that it had sent troop reinforcements to Chad. Some passengers said they were extremely worried by the situation there.

Others said they'd been advised by employers to leave, although they felt the situation had been overdramatised. According to reports, several French residents were beaten up and shop looted in Southern Chad earlier this week.
