    World featherweight boxing champion, Sugar Ramos, retained his title with a sixth round technical knock-out over Japan's Mitsunori Seki, at Tokyo's Kuramae Stadium on Sunday, (March 1).

    The end for Seki came 1 minute 38 seconds after the start of the sixth round after Ramos knocked Seki to the canvas twice. After the second knock-down, the Japanese challenger's adviser, Teddy Bentham, shouted at the referee to stop the fight.

    Ramos, who originally hailed from Cuba, carried the fight to Seki from the opening bell. during the first five rounds that pattern was the same, Ramos stalking his opponent and Seki back-pedalling. In the sixth round, Ramos moved in from the bell and sent Seki to the floor for a compulsory eight count.

    Shaken and seemingly hurt, Seki got to his feet a few seconds later was again knocked-down under a barrage of two handed blows the world champion. Seki, courageously got to his feet, but his seconds "threw in the towel."
    It was the Cuban's second successful defence of his championship since he took the title from Davey Moore in March, 1963; the fight that cost Moore his life.
