  • Description

As the United Nations General Assembly debate on whether to admit the People's Republic of China continued yesterday (Wednesday, 18 November), delegates from Malaysia, Ghana and Zambia supported her entry.

The Malaysian delegate, Mr. Zakariah, said the denial of a seat to Peking was not conducive to a stable and harmonious world order. Ghana's Ambassador E.O. Kufuor said U.N. members should come to terms with the realities of the situation, while Mr. Vernon Mwaanga of Zambia said pressure from the United States was responsible for the problem.

The General Assembly is expected to vote tomorrow (Friday, 20 November) on whether to admit the People's Republic and expel the representatives of Generalissimo Chiang Kai Chek's regime. A close result is expected.
