    HUNDREDS OF EXTRA POLICE PATROLLED THE AREA AND AT ONE POINT DEMONSTRATORS SWEPT ASIDE A POLICE CORDON. BUT THERE WERE NO SERIOUS INCIDENTS.

    THE DEMONSTRATION WENT ON FOR TWO HOURS. WITH PRESIDENT CHARLES DE GAULLE IN MIND, WORKERS CHANTED "CHARLOT, DES SOUS" -- "GIVE US THE MONEY, CHARLIE".

    TODAY'S DEMONSTRATION FOLLOWED A SERIES OF STRIKES IN NATIONALISED INDUSTRIES. UNIONS CLAIM THAT WAGE INCREASES HAVE NOT KEPT PACE WITH INCREASES IN THE COAST OF LIVING
