Background: Herr Walter Scheel, the West German Foreign Minister, who's been in New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly, is holding informal talks with several follow Foreign Ministers.
On Wednesday he met Mr. Khalil Abouhamad of Lebanon and Mr. Ahti Karjalainen of Finland. Both visited Herr Scheel at his Fifth Avenue hotel suite.
West Germany itself is not in the United Nations, and Herr Scheel has been reported as telling the U.N. Secretary-General, Kurt Waldheim, that there was no hurry over entry. Herr Scheel said he did not want the entry question to become an issue in the forthcoming federal elections in West Germany.
United states Secretary of State William Rogers, was at the Scheel-Waldheim meeting, at which Mr. Waldheim is said to have stressed that his own wish is for both East and West Germany to join the U.N. as soon as possible.
One meeting that has not yet taken place, is that between Herr Scheel and Mr. Mohamed Al-Zayyat of Egypt, whose relations with West Germany have been strained since the Munich Olympic Games shootings. The ministers were to have met on Wednesday, but it is now thought they may meet on Friday (October 5).
