  • Description

MAJOR GENERAL DUONG VAN MINH, CHAIRMAN OF SOUTH VIETNAM'S MILITARY GOVERNMENT, WHO LED A COUP D'ETAT WHICH OVER-THREW PRESIDENT NGO DINH DIEM'S REGIME, TOLD A HANDFUL OF REPORTERS RECENTLY THAT THERE WILL BE GENERAL ELECTION SOON.

THE JUNTA LEADER EXPRESSED THE OPINION THAT THE UNITED STATES SHOULD NOT CUT OFF HER AID TO SOUTH VIETNAM.EARLIER, HE DISCLOSED THAT THE ARRESTED MINISTERS OF THE FORMER REGIME WOULD BE BROUGHT TO TRIAL, INCLUDING THE PRESIDENT'S YOUNGER BROTHER, NGO DINH CAN.

MEANWHILE, POLITICAL OBSERVERS FEAR THAT FAILURE TO ANNOUNCE THE SPECIFIC DATE FOR THE ELECTIONS WOULD LEAD TO A COUNTER COUP WITH POPULAR SUPPORT OF THE STUDENTS.

THE QUESTION OF GENERAL ELECTION IS ON THE LIPS OF EVERY VIETNAMESE AND IT IS A CAUSE OF GRAVE CONCERN AS FAR AS THE STUDENTS WERE CONCERNED.
