KISSINGER: "My friend the Prime Minister and I had a very useful, very constructive, very positive talk. I expressed the United States' interest in progress in Jordanian-Israeli negotiations, which we had previously already discussed with the Israeli Foreign Minister Allon when he was here last week, and we discussed some principles and approaches which we will in time take up with Israel after we've had further discussions with the Prime Minister and maybe with his Majesty."
AL RIFAI: "I wish to confirm what Dr. Kissinger has just said. We've had a very useful and constructive meeting. We discussed the next moves that should be made towards the achievement of a lasting and durable peace in the Middle East. We believe that the next move in that process towards peace should be a disengagement agreement between Jordan and Israel. We will continue discussions and I might add here that I personally am quite optimistic and have come out of this first meeting with Dr. Kissinger quite encouraged."
