    Two Palestinians have gone on trial in Istanbul, Turkey, for their attack on the Yesilkoy airport last August during which four people were killed and 22 wounded.

    SYNOPSIS: The Istanbul public prosecutor has called for life imprisonment for the two Palestinians - Hussein Mohammed Al-Rashid, and Mahdi Mohammed Zilh. They are accused of setting off bombs and firing automatic weapons in a departure hall while passengers were waiting to board an Israeli El Al aircraft for Tel Aviv. Two Israelis, a japanese travel agent and an aide to United States Senator, Jacob Javits, were killed in the raid.

    One of the accused told the court that anyone would have done the same thing if they were in their position. He said the Palestinians had been under the oppression of the Israelis since 1948. They had raided the palestinians' villages and murdered their wives and daughters, he said.

    A lawyer representing Israelis wounded in the raid called for the death Penalty. The public prosecutor, calling for life imprisonment, said the violence had been random. The trial had bee adjourned until November the 16th.
