Background: A packed gallery turned out at the tough Wack Wack Golf Club in the Philippines over the weekend to watch Asia's top players compete for the open championship.

From the start it was evident that Australia's Graham Marsh and Taiwan's Chang Chun-fa would be strong contenders for the title, along with a young South Korean, Kim Seung Rack.

Marsh, a 29-year-old professional from Perth, had shot a 74 on the Saturday and pulled off a three under par 69 - the best score of the day - on Sunday to total an overall 290. Forty-three year-old Chang finished with the sam total to tie for second place.

The Korean player, a former staff sergeant in the Korean army, played a cool game throughout Sunday and managed to increase his lead in the early of the day. A few missed putts narrowed his margin however and on the eighteenth hole he was faced with a ten-foot putt to take the match by one stroke.

Despite the pressure, Kim sank the putt and finished with a 72 hole total of 289, just enough to win the first prize of 16,000 pesos.

For Kim it was a welcome victory. He first competed in the Philippine open championship six years ago, finishing well behind the leaders.
