  • Description

Italy's President Giovanni Gronchi took the salute at a military parade in Rome, June 2, on the 14th anniversary of the founding of the Italian Republic. Italian Members of Parliament, State officials, and foreign Military Attaches watched the parade from special stands.

Nine thousand men of the three services, with tanks, armoured cars, trucks, artillery, rocket-launchers, horses and mules took part in the parade. Twenty-eight regiments - including the famed mountain troops, the plume-hatted Bersaglieri - and contingents from military academies throughout Italy were represented. As the parade wound along the traditional route, following the Via dei Fori Imperialism from the Piazza Venezia to the Coliseum, fighter and bomber planes roared overhead.
