    AFTER HIS SWEEPING VICTORY IN THE GREEK GENERAL ELECTION, MR. GEORGE PAPANDREOU, LEADER OF THE CENTRE UNION PARTY, TODAY (TUESDAY) ACCEPTED A MANDATE FROM KING PAUL TO FORM A GOVERNMENT. HIS NEW CABINET IS EXPECTED TO BE SWORN IN TOMORROW (WEDNESDAY).

    THOUSANDS OF CENTRE UNION PARTY SUPPORTERS GATHERED OUTSIDE MR. PAPANDREOU'S HOUSE IN ATHEN'S TODAY, AS HE LEFT FOR THE PALACE. UNFORTUNATELY THE 76-YEAR-OLD PREMIER TRIPPED AND FELL HEAVILY AS HE CAME DOWN THE STEPS.

    THE CENTRE UNION PARTY HAVE WON 173 OF THE 300 SEATS IN PARLIAMENT. THE PARTY GAINED A VICTORY IN THE LAST ELECTIONS HELD IN NOVEMBER, BUT PARLIAMENT WAS DISSOLVED AFTER ONLY 25 DAYS, WHEN MR. PAPANDREOU FAILED TO SECURE A WORKING MAJORITY. PROFESSOR JOHN PARASKEVOPOULOS, WHO HAS HEADED A CARETAKER ADMINISTRATION SINCE THEN, SUBMITTED HIS RESIGNATION ON SUNDAY.
