The Republic of Thailand recently committed its first combat troops to fight in South Viet Nam. On their arrival there was a special welcoming ceremony attended by U.S. military and Thai dignitaries on Tuesday (October 17).
In this film we see the Thai troops are on parade ground. But after dark they joined the rest of their regiment in the field. Thailand's ambassador to Viet Nam. Bancha and the senior Thai commander, General Yuse were at the ceremonies. U.S. military sources say the Thais are expected to perform as well as the Korean Tiger Division troops in Viet Nam. The South Vietnamese welcomed the Thais and young Vietnamese girls draped some of them with flower garlands. Until the end of the speeches the Americans present stayed in the background. Later U.S. Air Force General Donald Darrow, Chief of Civil Affairs and U.S. Army General George G. O'Conner, Ninth Division Commander, greeted the Thai troops.
