  • Description

New Zealand's athletics fans were treated to some world-class running when several Olympic champions took part in an international meeting in Dunedin on Wednesday (25 January). The men's 100 metres went to Montreal 200 metres gold medallist Don Quarrie of Jamaica, and in the women's 100 metre there was no stopping West Germany's Olympic champion Anegret Richter. In the women's 800 metres, Mary Decker from the United States ran magnificently to beat New Zealand's Mary Decker. But in the men's 800 there was a home success when Olympic 1500 metres champion, and mile world-record holder John Walker raced home ahead of Italian Cario Grippo.
