Background: At Wimbledon July 1 VISNEWS filmed Centre Court play on the ninth day of the Lawn Tennis Championships, as Olmedo beat Emerson in the semi-finals of the men's singles.

Within sixty minutes the sure-handed top seed mercilessly trounced his Australian opponent in three sets 6-4, 6-0, 6-4.

The wiry Peruvian, listed as 'United States' by virtue of nomination and not of race, kept the upper hand all through the match. Emersion, who disposed of Britain's R.K. Wilson with alacrity last Monday, was allowed only a small share of the points that mattered.

It will be the first Australian-American final since 1951 when Olmedo, in the decisive match, meets R.Laver, who beat American B. Mackay 11-13, 11-9, 10-8, 7-9, 6-3 in 87 games lasting 3 3/4 hours - the second longest match ever at Wimbledon.
