    Background: Lebanon's Foreign Minister Khalil Abu Hamad arrived in Algiers on Wednesday (12 January) for the start of a six-day official visit. During his stay he is due to hold discussions with his Algerian counterpart, Abdelaziz Bouteflika.

    The Lebanese Foreign Minister's visit comes a week after that of the leader of the Palestinian Liberation front, Yasser Arafat. In talking to newsmen at the airport, Mr. Abu Hamad said that relations between Lebanon and the Palestinian resistance had always been and will be marked by a permanent dialogue and total frankness.

    SYNOPSIS: Lebanese foreign Minister Khalil Abu Hamad began a six-day visit to Algeria on Wednesday. He was met at Algiers airport by his Algerian counterpart. Abdelaziz Bouteflika. The two ministers held a news conference at the airport after the official greetings.

    Certain to be discussed was the Israeli forces attack on two villages in southern Lebanon on Monday, but the issue was not brought up at the news conference.

    The Lebanese Foreign Minister told newsmen that he hoped his meetings with Algerian officials would help reinforce political and economic relations between Lebanon and Algeria. Mr. Abu Hamad's visit came a week after that by the leader of the Palestinian Liberation Front, Yasser Arafat. The Lebanese Foreign Minister said that relations between lebanon and the Palestinian resistance had been and would continue to be marked by permanent dialogue and total frankness.
