  • Description

IRISH PEOPLE LIVING ALL OVER THE WORLD ARE PREPARING FOR THEIR GREAT NATIONAL DAY -- ST PATRICK'S DAY ON MARCH 17.TO CELEBRATE THE OCCASION, MOST OF THE IRISH WILL "WET THE SHAMROCK", WHICH MEANS DRINKING A TOAST TO THEIR OLD COUNTRY.

THE SHAMROCK IS THE NATIONAL EMBLEM OF IRELAND, AND THE IRISH SAY THAT IT'S A PLANT THAT CAN ONLY BE GROWN IN IRELAND.

IN DUNMORE EAST, COUNTY WATERFORD, IRELAND, TONS OF SHAMROCK ARE BEING PICKED AND THEN PACKED FOR EXPORT TO COUNTRIES ALL OVER THE WORLD -- INCLUDING THE UNITED STATES, CANADA, GERMANY, AFRICA, FRANCE, THE CONGO AND JAPAN.

IT HAS BEEN ESTIMATED THAT MORE THAN A MILLION IRISH "EXILES" WILL BE WEARING THE SHAMROCK, SENT OUT FROM THEIR NATIVE ISLAND, ON MARCH 17.

BECAUSE OF THE HEAVY FALLS OF SNOW AND THE INTENSELY COLD WINTER IN IRELAND, MUCH OF THE SHAMROCK THIS YEAR HAS BEEN LOST, AND MANY IRISH PEOPLE MAY HAVE TO GO WITHOUT THEIR TRADITIONAL NATIONAL EMBLEM.HOWEVER, ONE OPTIMISTIC IMPORTER HAS BROUGHT IN A SUPPLY OF PLASTIC SHAMROCK FROM JAPAN -- AND,BELIEVE IT OR NOT, IT'S BEING SOLD IN IRELAND.
