VALLENTINE: I don't think we know very much about the Three Mile accident, and it would be incredible that the Three Mile accident would repeat itself here.

COMM: The people here want the plant because they've been promised lower electricity bills and a boost to the economy. Residents just don't thing that the plant can hurt them.

    1. Why should it? I'd say it was pretty safe as far as I'm concerned.

    2. It doesn't bother me a bit, you know, to lay down at night and I can rest assured that everything's okay.

COMM: But today members of a group who have gone to court to try to stop the plant, handed out anti-nuclear literature outside the main gate, and the organiser Jim Desrosiers said the government and TVA are ignoring the dangers

DESROSIERS: We have to take every precaution we can, 100% total, to safeguard out lives. I don't feel that the nuclear industry has done that.

COMM: Late this afternoon plant operators began fuelling the nuclear core. The plant will operate at low levels at first and go to full power in four to six months.
