Background: AT A PRESS CONFERENCE IN LONDON, U.K., JANUARY 21, MR. A. Z. PHIZO, PRESIDENT OF THE NAGA NATIONAL COUNCIL, SAID INDIA WAS INTENSIFYING HER MILITARY EFFORTS AGAINST THE NAGAS, ON THE BURMA-ASSAM BORDER. INDIA INSISTS THAT THE TERRITORY IS A REGION OF THE REPUBLIC, AND THE NAGA NATIONAL COUNCIL PROTEST IT SHOULD BE TREATED AS AN INDEPENDENT STATE.

MR. PHIZO, WHO ARRIVED IN BRITAIN IN JUNE 1960, SAID HIS PEOPLE "WERE BECOMING MORE DESPAIRING ABOUT THE LACK OF MORAL SUPPORT FROM THE WEST IN THEIR STRUGGLE FOR FREEDOM, MORE DESPERATE AT THE MOUNTING SCALE OF ATTACKS AND ATROCITIES BY INDIA, AND I AM RECEIVING MORE AND MORE REPORTS STATING THAT THEY MUST LOOK FOR HELP WHERE THEY CAN GET IT, RATHER THAN SUBMIT TO INDIAN OPPRESSION AND DOMINATION".

ON THE SUBJECT OF OUTSIDE HELP, MR. PHIZE WAS ASKED:- (S.O.F. STARTS)
