    NIGERIA'S TEAM OF NINETEEN ATHLETES HAVE BEEN IN THEIR FINAL TRAINING PRIOR TO THEIR DEPARTURE FOR JAMAICA FOR THE 1966 COMMONWEALTH GAMES.

    THE TEAM INCLUDES 13 MEN AND SIX WOMEN. IN ADDITION, NIGERIA WILL BE REPRESENTED BY THREE SWIMMERS, AND SIX BOXERS.

    SIXTEEN OF THE NINETEEN ATHLETES HAVE HAD INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE.

    THE TEAM CAPTAIN IS SAMUEL IGUN, HIGH JUMP AND TRIPLE JUMP COMPETITOR WHO REPRESENTED NIGERIA IN THE OLYMPIC GAMES IN ROME AND TOKYO.

    THE MEMBERS OF THE TEAM WERE GIVEN A RECEPTION BY THE LEADER OF THE NIGERIAN NATIONAL LIBERATION COUNCIL, MAJOR GENERAL IRONSI.

    MAJOR GENERAL IRONSI URGED THE SPORTSMEN AND WOMEN TO REGARD THEMSELVES AS AMBASSADORS OF THEIR COUNTRY WHILE THEY WERE IN JAMAICA.
