Background: Tunisian President Bourguiba presided at the opening session of the Eighth Congress of Tunisian Workers, Tunis, April 1. Apart from Tunisian union representatives, Tunisian ministers, members of the Diplomatic Corps, and foreign union observers were present.
Matters to be discussed by the Congress include full employment, building new factories, changes in legislation, establishing norms of production, reducing hours worked, and the role of factory inspectors. In a wider sphere, it may consider the Tunisian policy at the Trade Union Conference to be held in Casablanca, Morocco, May 1960, when some kind of Pan-African Trade Union Movement will be proposed.
