  • Description

Soviet technologists have recently introduced new plant, to two industrial complexes, which has speeded up and improved more conventional methods.

A new and powerful steel-rolling mill constructed at the Chelyabinsk Mill is now enabling the production of larger and stronger piping for oil than has previously been possible at Ural plants; and at the Taganrog Factory, which specialises in combine-harvesters, a new model on its main production line is claimed to be one-and-a-half times more efficient than harvesters already in use. This coverage is from Moscow Television.

SYNOPSIS: Soviet technologists and industrial scientists have been making a concerted effort to improve production methods and to encourage the output of constantly improving machinery.

Their efforts are well illustrated on two industrial sites in the Urals.

A powerful rolling mill for steel piping has been developed at the Chelyabinsk plant. The pipes are being made to carry oil.

The new production methods being employed are resulting in much larger diameters and greater strength than previously attained in similar plants. With the help of a new techniques, 40 metres (feet) of pipe can be welded each hour.

Within weeks this steel piping is expected to be carrying a constant flow of oil.

At the Taganrog Factory, also in the Urals, combine-harvesters have been manufactured for some years to help cope with the agricultural needs of the Soviet Union.

Today, however, the main production line is featuring a revolutionary new model... the "Kolos"... which, it's claimed, is at least one-and-a-half times more efficient in harvesting grain than others in use at present, and easier to use than imported models. The assembly of these giant machines is entrusted only to very experienced skilled workers.

Hundreds of new combine-harvesters from Taganrog are expected to be ready for use in time for next year's harvest.
