    AN INTERNATIONAL COURSE IN FOOD AND NUTRITIONAL IS BEING HELD AT THE VULKANI INSTITUTE OF AGRICULTURE RESEARCH IN REHOVOTH. YESTERDAY (FRIDAY) STUDENTS FROM 14 FRANCOPHONIC COUNTRIES ATTENDED LECTURES, WORKED IN LABORATORIES AND VISITED A CANNING DEPARTMENT.

    THE COURSE, WITH 31 PARTICIPANTS, IS BEING OFFERED UNDER THE AEGIS OF THE UNITED NATIONS' FOOD AND AGRICULTURE ORGANISATION AND THE DEPARTMENT FOR INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION OF THE ISRAELI FOREIGN AFFAIRS MINISTRY.

    DURING THE SIX MONTHS OF THE COURSE, THE STUDENTS EXAMINE THE THEORY OF SUCH SUBJECTS AS CHEMISTRY AND PHYSIOLOGY. THE COURSE ALSO INVOLVES PRACTICAL WORK IN LABORATORIES. THE STUDENTS ALSO DEVOTE AN ADDITIONAL MONTH TO A SURVEY OF THE FOOD SITUATION IN AFRICA.

    THE STUDENTS ARE FROM CAMEROUN, CONGO-BRAZZAVILLE, CONGO-KINSHASA, IVORY COAST, DAHOMEY, GABON, UPPER VOLTA, THE MALAGASY REPUBLIC, MALI, NIGER, RWANDA, SENEGAL, CHAD AND TOGO.

    AMONG THOSE PARTICIPATING ARE JAQUELINE MAZNA, OF CONGO-KINSHASA, A DIRECTOR OF THE MINISTRY OF SOCIAL AFFAIRS; AHMED KONET OF THE IVORY COAST, AN AGRICULTURAL INSTRUCTORS IN HIS COUNTRY'S MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE AND ERNEST DOGBO BAILLY WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR SCHOOL CANTEENS IN THE IVORY COAST.

    DR. SOLAMGA FLAVIAN IS HEAD OF LABORATORY AT THE VULKAN INSTITUTE.

    THE COURSE IS DESIGNED TO BRING KNOWLEDGE IN NUTRITION AND FOOD PRODUCTION TO AFRICA'S DEVELOPING NATIONS, THE ORGANISERS OF THE COURSE FEEL THAT AN INITIAL STEP TOWARDS HEALTH IN THESE NATIONS IS EDUCATION IN NUTRITION.
