The unmanned submarine was dropped twenty-four hundred feet by cable. A manned test with the engine running will be made in about a month. The big six foot sphere will carry two men, the smaller one -- half the size, is for ballast. Between them are battery racks. The pisces is designed to decend to eight-thousand feet for research, or inspecting cables and pipelines. It was built by a Vancouver firm. A system of external arms will be installed which the firm says will be able to do anything a man can do with his hands. The sub will allow the crew to work at depths twenty-five times together than with conventional gear.
