  • Description

President John Kennedy posed for photographers in the Presidential Office of the White House Jan 21, before beginning his first day's work in what has been termed "The biggest job in the world". His first outside visitor was former President Harry Truman.

After pointedly steering clear of the White House for eight years, Mr. Truman took the opportunity of a nostalgic look around his old office during the fifteen minute visit at President Kennedy's invitation.

First assignment for President Kennedy: the swearing-in of his Cabinet. The first executive order issued directed that food supplies to four million needy people be doubled, an act of charity fulfilling one of his campaign pledges.
