At a press conference of foreign correspondents in Beirut on June 24, Mr. Pierre Gemayel, President of the Lebanese Kataeb Party, a right wing Nationalist group supporting the Chamoun Administration, laid all the blame of the Lebanon crisis on the United Arab Republic.
He said: " The Lebanon is the victim of a characterised aggression from the United Arab Republic." And he added: "You have only to notice the current of men, arms, and ammunition from the United Arab Republic onto our territory."
Mr. Gemayel's group, which is against the possible intervention of British or United States troops to stabilise the Lebanon's chronic internal situation, listed cases of interference in the Lebanon by Egypt and Syria.
He pinned his faith on his countrymen's "heroic resistance" to outside pressure, riots and bomb-throwing.
"For the last 45 days," he said, " the Lebanon has been able to and will continue to stand the situation, and the struggle, which the majority of her people are still holding, will give rise to the admiration and sympathy of the whole world."
He ended:" We are called upon to choose between freedom and slavery."
