There were emotional scenes at Jose Marte airport in Cuba this week as people paid tribute to the 57 Cubans who died in a disastrous plane crash near Barbados earlier on 6th October.

SYNOPSIS: In all the Cuban DC-8 airliner was carrying 73 people when it exploded and plunged into the Caribbean only a few minutes after takeoff. Those bodies that were retrieved were badly mutilated. As many as could be found were taken back to Cuba for burial. After a memorial service for the dead last week Cuban Premier, Fidel Castro, savagely lashed out at the United States and accused its Central Intelligence Agency of complicity in the alleged sabotage of the plane. He then broke off Cuba's 1973 anti-hijacking agreement with the U.S. A Cuban exile group called El Condor claimed responsibility for the crash. Two men have been held in Trinidad in connection with the crash since 7 October. Caribbean countries are very worried about the political implications of the crash and on Thursday (21 October) ministers and aviation experts from Barbados, Cuba, Guyana, Venezuela, Trinidad and Togago met in Trinidad to try to reach agreement as to who should take legal action over the crash
